Mamluk rugs are some of the most striking geometric rugs ever designed: a kaleidoscope of stars and octagons that looks as modern today as it did centuries ago.
The name comes from the Mamluk sultanate, which ruled Egypt and Syria from about 1250 to 1517. Workshops in Cairo produced carpets famous for their intricate geometry and limited palette of deep red, blue, green and yellow. The few historic Mamluk carpets that survive are prized museum pieces, and their designs are revived by weavers today.

The rugs in our Mamluk collection are hand-knotted in Afghanistan in New Zealand wool with natural dyes. Alongside the traditional reds and blues, we carry softer gray, beige and black colorways for modern rooms. Each one is one of a kind.
Because the design radiates from the center, a Mamluk looks best where the medallion stays visible: under a glass or open coffee table, in a foyer, or in a dining room with a round table. The geometry pairs well with clean-lined modern furniture, leather and brass, and the softer colorways suit transitional and Scandinavian rooms.
