A dark teal star with a red heart sits on a blue and ivory diamond, framed by a patchwork of green, tan and lavender. With the design centered, it looks finished from across the room. This blue, beige and teal kilim throw pillow measures 16 x 16 inches (41 x 41 cm) and is hand woven in Turkey, so no two are exactly alike.
Kilims have been woven by hand in Anatolia for centuries, and their bold geometric motifs are some of the most recognized designs in textile art. The front is a hand woven wool kilim. A kilim is a flat weave, so the wool threads are woven tightly in and out by hand instead of being knotted, which gives the pattern its crisp, stepped edges. The hand-spun wool shows soft, natural shifts in color, called abrash, and with no pile to crush or shed it stays smooth and durable. It has a cotton back and a soft, hypoallergenic polyfill insert.
Add it to a sofa, an accent chair or a king or queen bed. Designer tip: pair it with a solid linen pillow in one of its colors and a simple stripe, so the kilim pattern stays the star.
