Large shaped medallions outlined in dark blue repeat across the field inside a beige floral border. The medallion design gives the room a natural focal point. This eclectic transitional 6x9 area rug comes in blue and beige.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the blue field and the beige border their depth, with brown used for the detail work. The blue field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. Fine hand knotting keeps each medallion sharp against the field. After knotting, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried, which gives this 6x9 rug its natural sheen. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. Because the pile lies in one direction, the blue field looks a little deeper from one end of the rug and lighter from the other.
It anchors a living room seating group, a bedroom, or a dining room. The cool blue and beige palette, with a touch of brown, suits coastal, Scandinavian, and contemporary rooms, where it reads as a calm accent. The bold medallions pair well with solid upholstery and simple lines.
