A worn central medallion and floral ground show through a bright blue field in pale, washed patches, inside a darker border. The original drawing shows through like a shadow under the color. It is a 10x13 overdyed area rug in blue and black.
Hand knotted in all natural dyed, hand-spun wool, this vintage rug is one of a kind. Next, it spent three to six months in the sun, where natural sunlight slowly drew out its original colors. It was then overdyed in blue and hand washed, leaving bold, chromatic tones that give a traditional design a completely new, modern life. The dye takes differently on each shade of the original design, which is why the old pattern shows through tone on tone instead of disappearing. You may notice lighter and deeper areas of blue across the surface. That layered, uneven color is the signature of an overdyed rug, and together with the hand-tied knots it gives the rug its own personality. Because the pile is low, the rug lies flat under doors and furniture and suits high-traffic rooms.
It holds a full living room seating group, a dining table for six to eight, or a spacious primary bedroom. The deep blue and black color suits contemporary, coastal, and eclectic rooms, and it pairs well with white, gray, natural wood, and brass.
