A tan octagonal medallion sits on a deep teal field of vines, with brown-orange corners and a brown floral border. The centered design gives the floor a clear focal point. It is a 10x13 vintage hand painted area rug in teal and brown.
Hand knotted in wool and one of a kind, this rug started life as a vintage Persian-design rug. To give it a second life, it was laid out in the sun to soften its original colors, and the pile was then sheared low by hand, which gives the surface its gently worn, distressed look. Artisans then painted new color into the pile by hand, area by area, following the lines of the original drawing. That is how the teal field and the brown border got their fresh, modern palette, with tan in the details, while the classic design stayed fully in place. Finally the rug was washed to set the color and soften the wool. Because every step is done by hand, small shifts in shade and texture are part of the look, not flaws. Because the pile is low, the rug lies flat under doors and furniture and works well in high-traffic rooms.
It holds a full living room seating group, a dining table for six to eight, or a spacious primary bedroom. The teal and brown palette suits eclectic, bohemian, and contemporary rooms, and it pairs well with white walls, natural wood, and brass.
