A faint, tone-on-tone pattern of small blossoms covers a gray field inside an ivory-toned border. It brings a soft, garden-like feel to the floor. This classic transitional 12x15 area rug comes in gray and ivory.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the gray field and the ivory border their depth. The gray field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. Fine hand knotting keeps the small blossoms and curving vines crisp. The pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried for a natural sheen across the full 11'10'' x 14'7''. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. Like all hand knotted wool, the pile has a nap, so the gray tones shift slightly as you walk around the rug and as the light changes.
It holds a full living room seating group, a dining table for six to eight, or a spacious primary bedroom. The calm gray and ivory tones work in Scandinavian and modern farmhouse rooms, and give a quiet-luxury feel under neutral upholstery. The flowers soften clean-lined, modern furniture.
