A tight trellis of small gold blossoms covers a brown field inside a green-gold border. The small repeat reads as texture from a distance and as pattern up close. This boho chic transitional 9x11 area rug comes in brown and green.
Hand knotted and one of a kind, this wool rug is made from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool, a blend of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The brown of the field and the green of the border come from vegetable dyes extracted from local plants, and blue and gold pick out the smaller motifs. You may notice an abrash in the brown field, a soft shift in shade within a single color. It comes from hand-spun wool taking natural dye slightly differently from batch to batch, and it is one of the signs of a true handmade rug. The trellis is knotted by eye, so each repeat is very slightly different from the next. After knotting, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried, which gives this 9x11 rug its natural sheen. What you get is a dense wool pile with a soft hand, low enough to sit neatly under chairs and doors and sturdy enough for busy rooms. Because the pile lies in one direction, the brown field looks a little deeper from one end of the rug and lighter from the other.
It holds a full living room seating group, a dining table for six to eight, or a spacious primary bedroom. The contrast of brown and green, with touches of blue and gold, gives a boho chic or eclectic room its focal point and adds energy to a contemporary space. The small-scale pattern layers well with bolder fabrics and prints.
