Rows of soft diamond medallions repeat across a gray field inside a pale floral border. The bold medallions give the floor a strong, balanced rhythm. It is an eclectic transitional 10x15 area rug in gray.
This one-of-a-kind, handmade wool rug is hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool, a blend of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, color the gray field and border. Look for the abrash, a gentle shift in shade within a single color. It tends to show most in larger areas of one color, such as the gray field here, and it happens because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. The medallions are drawn knot by knot, which keeps their outlines clean. After knotting, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried, which gives this 10x15 rug its natural sheen. The result is a dense, even wool pile that feels soft underfoot, springs back under furniture, and stands up to everyday foot traffic. Because the pile lies in one direction, the gray field looks a little deeper from one end of the rug and lighter from the other.
Use it as a large living room rug, under a dining table that seats eight, or in a great room. The soft gray palette is a natural fit for Scandinavian, Japandi, and minimalist rooms, where texture and quiet color do the work. The medallion design suits transitional rooms and symmetrical furniture layouts.
