A red field holds an ivory octagon at the center with navy and lavender stars around it, framed by a wide ivory border with a zigzag edge. It is a 9x12 hand knotted Kazak rug in red and ivory.
Over the 20th century, Kazak designs spread far beyond the Caucasus, and they remain a favorite for adding color and character to a home. The zigzag inner edge of the border adds an extra layer of tribal detail. It is hand knotted in Pakistan from hand-spun wool colored with natural vegetable dyes, using the Turkish double knot. Hand-spun wool takes the dye a little differently from batch to batch, so you may see a gentle abrash, a soft shift of shade within one color, that adds depth. The short, dense pile is soft underfoot and holds up well in busy rooms.
Choose it for a dining room under a table for six to eight, a primary bedroom under a king or queen bed, a great room or a den. Its bold tribal pattern suits rustic, Southwestern, bohemian and eclectic rooms, and it brings warmth and character to a modern space.
