Large quatrefoil medallions repeat across a blue field inside a tan border of rosettes. The bold medallions give the floor a strong, balanced rhythm. This eclectic transitional 3x5 area rug comes in blue and tan.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the blue field and the tan border their depth. The blue field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. The medallions are drawn knot by knot, which keeps their outlines clean. The pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried for a natural sheen across the full 3'1'' x 5'0''. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. Like all hand knotted wool, the pile has a nap, so the blue tones shift slightly as you walk around the rug and as the light changes.
Use it in an entryway, a home office, beside a bed, or as a layered accent over a larger rug. The blue and tan tones work in contemporary, coastal, and mid-century modern interiors, and they pair easily with gray, white, and natural wood. The bold medallions pair well with solid upholstery and simple lines.
