Rows of pale pointed medallions repeat across a red field inside a scalloped tan border. The regular repeat gives the rug a tailored, orderly feel. This oriental transitional 6x9 area rug comes in red and tan.
Hand knotted and one of a kind, this wool rug is made from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool, a blend of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The red of the field and the tan of the border come from vegetable dyes extracted from local plants, and brown pick out the smaller motifs. You may notice an abrash in the red field, a soft shift in shade within a single color. It comes from hand-spun wool taking natural dye slightly differently from batch to batch, and it is one of the signs of a true handmade rug. The medallions are knotted by eye, so each repeat is very slightly different from the next. After knotting, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried, which gives this 6x9 rug its natural sheen. What you get is a dense wool pile with a soft hand, low enough to sit neatly under chairs and doors and sturdy enough for busy rooms. Because the pile lies in one direction, the red field looks a little deeper from one end of the rug and lighter from the other.
It anchors a living room seating group, a bedroom, or a dining room. The warm red and tan palette, with a touch of brown, brings a boho chic, eclectic feel to a room and pairs well with leather, walnut, and brass. The rich pattern pairs well with solid upholstery and simple lines.
