Rows of small leaf and blossom sprays climb across a dark blue field inside a beige floral border. It brings a soft, garden-like feel to the floor. It is an eclectic transitional 6x9 area rug in blue and beige.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the blue field and the beige border their depth, with rust and gold used for the detail work. The blue field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. The curves of the flowers and vines are drawn knot by knot, which keeps their outlines sharp. The pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried for a natural sheen across the full 6'3'' x 9'0''. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. Like all hand knotted wool, the pile has a nap, so the blue tones shift slightly as you walk around the rug and as the light changes.
Use it as a living room rug, under a dining table, or in a spacious bedroom. The blue and beige tones, with touches of rust and gold, work in contemporary, coastal, and mid-century modern interiors, and they pair easily with gray, white, and natural wood. The floral pattern leans transitional and suits cottage and grandmillennial rooms too.
