Rows of small patterned panels fill a dark blue field inside a pale gold border. The geometric layout gives it a clean, graphic look. This bohemian transitional 6x9 area rug comes in blue and gold.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the blue field and the gold border their depth, with brown and beige used for the detail work. The blue field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. Hand knotting keeps the edges of each small panel straight and even. After knotting, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried, which gives this 6x9 rug its natural sheen. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. Because the pile lies in one direction, the blue field looks a little deeper from one end of the rug and lighter from the other.
It anchors a living room seating group, a bedroom, or a dining room. The contrast of blue and gold, with touches of brown and beige, gives a boho chic or eclectic room its focal point and adds energy to a contemporary space. Its ordered geometry pairs well with clean-lined, tailored pieces.
