A faint tone-on-tone trellis covers a warm tan field with brown detail. The small repeat reads as texture from a distance and as pattern up close. It is a chic transitional 6x9 area rug in tan and brown.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the tan field and the brown border their depth, with beige green used for the detail work. The tan field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. The trellis is knotted by eye, so each repeat is very slightly different from the next. The pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried for a natural sheen across the full 6'0'' x 9'1''. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. Like all hand knotted wool, the pile has a nap, so the tan tones shift slightly as you walk around the rug and as the light changes.
It anchors a living room seating group, a bedroom, or a dining room. The calm tan and brown tones, with a touch of beige green, work in Scandinavian and modern farmhouse rooms, and give a quiet-luxury feel under neutral upholstery. The fine lattice reads as tailored, which suits transitional and classic-modern rooms.
