Rows of small leaf sprays cover a dark blue field, framed by a gold floral border. The all-over design has no center, which makes furniture placement easy. It is an oriental transitional 10x14 area rug in blue and gold.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the blue field and the gold border their depth, with orange and green used for the detail work. The blue field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. Fine hand knotting keeps the small blossoms and curving vines crisp. Once the 10x14 rug is off the loom, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried for a natural sheen. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. The natural lanolin in the wool helps the pile shed dust and resist everyday soiling, so it stays fresh with regular vacuuming.
It holds a full living room seating group, a dining table for six to eight, or a spacious primary bedroom. In blue and gold, with touches of orange and green, this rug suits eclectic, bohemian, and maximalist interiors, and it brings color to a neutral, modern room. The floral pattern leans transitional and suits cottage and grandmillennial rooms too.
