A bold beige trellis of leaf sprays covers a red field, framed by a wide beige floral border. The small repeat reads as texture from a distance and as pattern up close. This classic transitional 10x14 area rug comes in red and beige.
This handmade wool rug is one of a kind, hand knotted from hand-spun, natural vegetable dyed wool in a mix of merino, New Zealand, and Ghazni wool. The vegetable dyes, extracted from local plants, give the red field and the beige border their depth, with tan and green used for the detail work. The red field may show an abrash, a gentle change of shade within one color. It is normal in handmade rugs, because hand-spun wool takes natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. The trellis is knotted by eye, so each repeat is very slightly different from the next. Once the 10x14 rug is off the loom, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried for a natural sheen. The finished pile is dense and even, soft to walk on, and resilient enough to recover from furniture and daily use. The natural lanolin in the wool helps the pile shed dust and resist everyday soiling, so it stays fresh with regular vacuuming.
It holds a full living room seating group, a dining table for six to eight, or a spacious primary bedroom. In red and beige, with touches of tan and green, this rug suits bohemian, global, and rustic modern interiors, and it warms up a mid-century modern room. The small-scale pattern layers well with bolder fabrics and prints.
