The fastest way to find the right rug is to start with the style of the room. Here is what works for the most popular looks, with places to start in our collection.
Boho rooms love pattern, color and texture. Layer a kilim over a larger neutral rug, or let a bold Kazak or tribal rug lead. Mix in plants, rattan and textiles from different places.
Light, calm and practical. Choose ivory Moroccan-style rugs, soft gray modern kilims or a muted transitional rug. Keep patterns quiet so the wood and white walls stay the focus.
Warm and lived-in. Faded reds, rusts and blues in traditional or vintage distressed rugs soften shiplap and wood, and Kazak geometrics suit the rustic side of the style.

Clean lines and warm wood. Geometric modern rugs, Gabbeh color blocks and graphic kilims echo the period's shapes. Rust, mustard, olive and teal are period-friendly colors.
Classic furniture and symmetry. A traditional rug with a central medallion anchors a formal living or dining room; an all-over floral works in a family room.
Breezy and light. Soft blues, sand and ivory in transitional or Oushak-style rugs suit a coastal room, and flat weaves handle sandy feet.
Low, calm and natural. Choose a plain or tone-on-tone rug with texture rather than pattern. Our minimalist styling guide shows how to build the room around a hand-knotted rug.
