Overdyed Area Rugs

An overdyed rug starts as a hand-knotted wool rug with a traditional pattern. It is laid in the sun for three to six months, which slowly fades its original colors, and is then overdyed in a single new color and washed by hand. The result is an overdyed wool rug where the old design stays visible underneath as a soft shadow, so you get the history of a traditional rug with a color that fits a modern room. Choose a blue overdyed rug for a calm bedroom, a gray overdyed rug for an industrial loft, or teal, green or rose for a bolder statement. The effect is strongest in larger sizes, where the shifts of tone read like watercolor across the field. Overdyed rugs suit contemporary, eclectic and industrial spaces and pair well with leather, wood and metal, making each one a modern rug with real character.
